As a young player Agyeman Badu played colts football in the Bono regional town of Seikwa before being spotted by Berekum Arsenal. He made his debut in the Ghana Premier League in 2009 at the Golden City against giants Asante Kotoko.
As a diehard fan of the Porcupine Warriors, the young Badu secured a move to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium where he featured in a few games for the Ghana Premier League record winners before moving to Europe.
Still as a youth player Agyeman Badu put himself on the world map during the 2009 FIFA U20 World Cup in Egypt where he played an instrumental role and scored the winning penalty of what remains Africa’s success in the history of the tournament.
Badu secured a move to Italian Seria A side Udinese via a loan spell at Spanish side Recreativo. While at Udinese Badu made 170 Seria A appearances for Les Zebrettes, scoring 10 goals providing crucial assists.
In the the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons Badu featured in the UEFA Champions League with Udinese. He also featured in the UEFA Europa League with the Little Zebras in those two seasons stated above. He rose to become a captain of Udinese and played alongside star players like Alexi Sanchez, countryman Kwadwo Asamoah, Antonio Di Natale, Samir Handanovic, Bruno Fernandes, among others.
Away from the Mediterranean nation where he spent 9 seasons with Udinese and a further season with Hellas Verona, Badu had spells in Turkey and China with Bursaspor and Qingdao FC respectively.
International performances - before helping Ghana to win gold at the 2009 African Youth Championship (now U20 AFCON) in Rwanda, Badu had already debuted for the Black Stars in 2008 when he came off the bench against Lesotho.
In an era when Ghana paraded one of the most fearsome midfielders in the world with Michael Essien, Stephen Appiah, Laryea Kingston, Sulley Muntari, Derek Boateng, Anthony Annan and others, Badu still managed to gatecrash the Ghana squad.
Badu made 78 official appearances for the Black Stars and scored 11 important goals including a world-beater against Guinea at that 2012 AFCON which was nominated for the FIFA Puskas Award.
The workaholic midfielder, who earned the nickname Nika-Nika for his workhorse and tireless attributes in midfield, has two AFCON Silver medals, two Gold medals with the Ghana U20 team and the 2022 GHALCA G6 Gold medal with Great Olympics.
He made 5 AFCON appearances and played at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
